Iron City Studios had a the amazing opportunity to take photos at this year's Finley Awards. The Finely Awards began in 1996 in honor of Robert Finley, who worked at Berry High School from 1963 until 1994 as an educator and coach. Mr. Finley was well known for miraculous coaching for Berry High School. He lead his team at Berry to two State Championships, and while he is greatly remembered for his coaching skills, he is better known for his personality and amazing character. He was greatly adored by his students, fellow educators and coaches and that is why he has an entire night dedicated to his honor and those who resemble characteristics of this great man. Specifically, an employee in the district and a graduating senior from Hoover High School and Spain Park High School, along with grade-level character award winners (grades 3-12) from all Hoover City Schools.
Unlike past years, this year's Finley Awards was held at the Metro Church. It was the perfect location to hold such a prestigious event! There was plenty of room for the family members and friends of the honorees to gather and celebrate their achievement. As the guests arrived, the Spain Parks High School jazz band was playing soulful tunes. We decided to bring two photographers for the event, to make sure the entire evening had 100% coverage. One of ICS's photographers was in the ceremony space, taking photos of each honoree as they walked across the stage. While our other photographer, set up in the lobby to take group photos of each school's winners! It was such an honor to be apart of such a special night in all of special student's lives!
Trust us when we say that Hoover High School can really throw an amazing dance. Last fall, Iron City Studios had the chance to party with the students of Hoover High School at their annual Halloween Dance. Every dance we have attended for HHS has been one, big dance party. The students really get into every dance that the school puts on and it is really awesome to see! The Halloween Dance was especially fun for us because we got to see that school spirit amplified! Nearly everyone that attended this dance went all out with their costumes! Hoover High School itself went all out of the decor! They had students dressed up as undead doctors and nurses that would creep through the crowds, holding (fake) body parts and organs of their previous victims and others that dressed as crazy, mental patients locked in a cage in the center of the room, screaming and laughing, trying to get out! Fog and multi-colored laser lights replaced the florescent lights overhead as the DJ pumped up the jams.
Everywhere you turned you saw the most thought-out costumes imaginable. In one corner there were minions dancing and Teletubbies talking. If you looked in the other corner, Donald Trump and the Men in Black sipping on sodas. With such an amazing display of costumes, of COURSE there was a costume contest! There were categories for best individual, best couple and best group. As the contest began, the individuals lined up and hyped up the crowd up as they walked by to be judged. A slinky, Chucky the Doll, a Jedi and Marilyn Monroe were a few of the contestants, but Donald Trump got the most votes and took Best Individual. Next, Shrek and Fiona, The Purge couple, Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny and Ketchup and Mustard all tried, but the Army Men took the gold in Best Couple. Lastly, The Flintstones, the cast of Stranger Things, the anchormen from Anchorman and the Minions all walked across the stage in hopes of winning, but the Bad Girls of Gotham, Cat Woman, Lady Joker, Poison Ivy and early Quinn, won the hearts of the judges in Best Group.
The staff at Iron City Studios always enjoys hoover High School's events, but the Halloween Dance was one of the most fun events we've gotten to be apart of in a long time! We cannot wait to see what they students come up with next Halloween season!
A few weeks ago we were given the opportunity to join partners with the Alabama Juniors Volleyball Club. We were asked to come shoot both their individual players and their teams. What a great shoot! Awesome parents and very sweet girls. These ladies practice hard and put everything have into achieving their goals!
We custom created a volleyball court background for them to give them something a little extra ordinary. We shot the individuals in a composite style to be put together with their teams. It's a far departure from the average team photos they were getting in the past. In the ordinary photos they just lined up against the wall and took a team shot. Our composite team photos allowed each individual player to strike a separate pose and make sure that the player was sharp, in focus, and can be fully viewed. This is the new wave in sports photography.
We like to tell teams that we become strategic partners, and that is the truth. We want to work with you and your team leaders to make sure that we get the best shots possible for your team. We also want to partner with your team in a unique way to commission back part of the sales. To make this mutually beneficial, we have to do something that the parents just can't do with their average camera or phone. Technology has gotten smarter and better, and parents demand is higher than ever. We truly love what came out of the Alabama Juniors Volleyball Club, and would love to talk to you about the sports teams that you might work with.
